Business Owner Boundaries
You’ve probably heard that boundaries are key to growing your business—but it’s true. Without them, you can’t move forward.
It’s easy to think of boundaries as limiting or controlling. But what if I told you they’re actually the key to taking control of your life and your business?
Boundaries are guidelines for you. They give you the power to say “no” to things that drain you without feeling guilty.
Boundaries in Business:
As a business owner, boundaries are essential to real balance. Now, I know some people will argue that balance is a myth—but I believe balance means giving yourself permission to focus on one thing at a time. Work can get your all during work hours, and family time can be sacred when the day is done. Some days, you’ll give your all to one area; other days, you’ll shift priorities. And that’s okay.
When you skip the balance, though, burnout isn’t far behind. So, creating boundaries to preserve that balance? Non-negotiable.
How to Create and Stick to Boundaries:
- Identify the things that leave you feeling drained at the end of your week. (You know the ones!)
- Write them down.
- Brainstorm ways to eliminate them. Is it realistic? Can you stick with it?
As a coach for hairstylists, I’ve seen how these boundaries work specifically in your industry. But trust me, they’re universal.
A Few Boundary Examples to Get You Started:
- Treat your business like a business—become the CEO!
- Don’t discount your services.
- Set clear business hours.
- Have a solid cancellation policy.
- Block off rest periods.
- Use a separate phone number.
- Only offer services you love doing.
The more you protect these boundaries, the easier it gets to level up your business. Entering a new level requires a new mindset—and boundaries are one key to getting there.
In my program, The Licensed Lifestyle, I dive deeper into these kinds of tools. If you’re a hairstylist and you’re struggling with boundaries, you need this program.
