Hairstylist, You Need a Cancellation Policy

I would love to assume that all hairstylists have a cancellation policy. But, I have a feeling that isn’t the case. Or maybe you have one but you don’t enforce it consistently. Let’s keep this short and sweet and talk about why having a cancellation policy and following it is essential for hairstylists and things that should be in yours.

Why you need a cancellation policy:

So you don’t completely lose out on expected money: When clients no-show or cancel last minute, you’re not able to make the income you were expecting. Having a fee or for these situations allows you to at last recoup a bit of that.

To let clients know the expectations: If there is a set expectation with how you handle your schedule clients are more likely to give you advance notice when they need to make changes. In theory, this gives you a chance to fill that appointment with another client. And if not, you at least aren’t waiting around at the salon for them. I also suggest incorporating how you handle clients that show up late. As well as if a client can rebook after a cancellation.

To be fair to all clients: When you have the same policy for everyone and hold everyone to it there are less chances of misunderstandings or certain clients feeling like you are singling them out. It also shows that you value their time.

Gives you professional boundaries: Having a cancellation policy and enforcing it for all clients makes sure that you are treated professionally as a stylist and your business runs smoothly. These policies also encourage clients to respect your time and the time of other clients you have that day.

If you are a booth rental stylist, you own your business. And that means you should have a cancellation policy in place and a way to enforce it.

A good cancellation policy ultimately helps hairstylists run a more predictable, professional, and financially secure business.

If you don’t have one, now is a great time to put one in place.
