Doing More Doesn’t Equal Success

Did we all grow up thinking that as adults we have to do more in order to get more? Maybe it’s part of the millennial work ethic. Maybe it’s just the message that was passed down to us. Either way, as an entrepreneur this is one of the beliefs I’ve had to make an effort to unlearn.

The funny thing? I’m in a season where I’m basically working three jobs – a full-time office job, doing hair, and building my Arbonne and coaching business. (And if you create content, you know that could count as its own full-time job.)

So no, I’m not sitting around doing “less.” But here’s what I’ve realized – balance doesn’t mean everything gets equal time. It means knowing what’s most important right now. It means doing what’s sustainable so I don’t burn out before I even get where I’m going.

I’m working hard now so that in the near future, I won’t have to. That’s the whole point.

The Myth of “More”

Somewhere along the way we were taught that if you just keep stacking more on your plate, you’ll eventually feel successful. That’s hustle culture, societal pressure, and generational expectations.

But doing more doesn’t equal success. It equals exhaustion, resentment, and disconnection from yourself.

If you’ve ever thought, “I’ll finally feel accomplished once I add just one more thing,” you’re not alone. You’re human. I’ve thought the same thing, too.

What Success Really Looks Like

Here’s what I’ve learned:

  • Success isn’t busyness.
  • Success feels like freedom, peace, joy.
  • Success is giving your best to what matters most and letting the rest be.

For me, balance doesn’t look like splitting my time evenly. It looks like honoring my priorities in whatever season I’m in. Some days my office job needs me. Some days it’s my clients. Some days it’s rest. And it all adds up.

Lessons From My Journey

Therapy, coaching, and a lot of real-life trial and error have taught me this:

  • Boundaries protect your energy and your future.
  • You can work hard now without glorifying hustle forever.
  • It doesn’t have to be complicated – simple is enough.

The Soft Reset

What if doing less actually got you more?

Rest is productive. Saying no is productive. Choosing the small, simple thing that helps you breathe again – that’s productive.

You don’t have to live in hustle mode to be successful. You can chase your dreams without running yourself into the ground.
